The University of Iowa samples are probably the most famous public domain sounds and fortunately Blackhole12 edited many of them into individual notes. Some of notes are a tad out of tune and eventually I might try to do a bit of tuning on them. Generally I think they sound quite nice and appreciate the University of Iowa Electronic Music Studios and their Director, Lawrence Fritts, creating them and making them available as Public Domain samples.
The String section is really the only thing that doesn’t work very well at all. Blackhole12 I think gave up on it as there really aren’t enough Violin or Cello samples to make an instrument. Fortunately Lawrence Fitts re-recorded the entire string section in 2012. At some point when I’m up to some serious editing work, I’d like to play with them.
